Heidi Klum Fashion aside as judge talent "TV

LOS ANGELES - German supermodel Heidi Klum who strutted the runway track to the contractor and host of the reality show, is now trying his luck as a judge on the television show NBC's competition "of America's Got Talent."

Klum, 40, nicknamed "The Body" for her statuesque figure, has carved a career beyond modeling, as host of the fashion of the Lifetime series "Project Runway" and "Germany's Next Top Model."

For "America's Got Talent" is the model from its role as a fashion expert for the first time to sit next to the former Spice Girl Mel B., comedian Howie Mandel and host Howard Stern radio on the jury for the eighth season the show, which began this week.

Klum, who has her own fashion empire with jewelry, clothing and perfumes, spoke to Reuters about his transition from a business model and large TV actor in the United States and Germany.

Q: What is it like to be non-fashion in your first role?

A: I think (producer) look at me like a judge who traveled extensively for 20 years. I climbed up and down through many maneuvers ... and I think that's why they wanted me there. I do not think they want me there. Fashion I look (candidates) for their talent and not necessarily how they are dressed and if the length of the hem is straight. This is what I do on "Project Runway," but not here.

Q: What role do you see yourself as a judge?

A: I look like a woman, as a mother, someone who has seen many shows. You know, I think, "Hey, this is an act that is interesting! Is this something I want to see again? Does that excite me? Will my kids like to see that?"

Q: Do you have certain criteria that you're looking for?

A: I like people who surprise me, showing me things that I never seen before. Today we saw this guy ... it is a sword swallower. He combined this with pole dancing. It was pole dancing with a sword in his neck, and made the fatal crash at the end they do sometimes, you know? With a sword in his mouth. ... We are tired and we saw a lot and want something that will surprise you.

Q: What motivated you to do a show like this?

A: I have never seen as a judge on the show, because I judged on my couch at home and that's all. And when she called me, I said, "Oh my God, what would be a fun gig." I met and I was flattered that they want me to be a part of it. When the news broke that Mel B. replaced Sharon Osbourne, I thought they just wanted to see if I was there. Then they will like it, "No, no, no, actually we do not have the intention to have four judges and you will be our surprise fourth judge."

Q: Do you remember hearing Beginning as a model?

A: No, not really. In modeling, people do not really care what you have to say. You really do not need to sing or dance or do a performance. This is your look and they look at your face and your body. Once more, and people look at you and they either want your look, or they do not.

Q: When did you know that the model might not last forever?

A: It's not so much that I thought I have to branch out. I just spread naturally, because I enjoyed all the different things that I had. For example, I began designing jewelry, because the people that the bra made millions for Victoria's Secret - I wear the bra have three times - and they saw my passion for design. Then they said, "Why do not we make a line, and that's how it started?.

Before entering my modeling contest in '92, I finished my school and I went to Dusseldorf to school design. ... I was a fashion designer, and if I had not won the model competition, I would have been in school.

Q: How can compensate for that in the United States and Germany?

A: I spend most of my time in America. I shoot "Germany's Next Top Model" in Los Angeles. It is broadcast in Germany, but I do it at home, just because I do not travel so much. So I make the last in Germany and when I look at the cast and all the girls, but I'm all in America, then we turn the show in Los Angeles ... For me, this (map) is near my heart, because these girls to do what I want for the last 20 years, and I closer to what type of competition felt.
