fashion designers new business trends in difficult retail market
High fixed costs are threatening the future of brick and mortar retail ,Prada handbag while online shopping continues to grow in Australia.
Gathered with over 20 top designers in Melbourne Fashion Week , the experts will have the opportunity to encourage them from the industry , new strategies to try to open their shops .
The Council of Textile and Fashion Industries of Australia hosted a panel discussion with scientists , designers and retailers.
One of the speakers was Sean Sands , which is based director of the Australian Centre for Retail Studies at Monash University .
He said the rent is one of the highest costs for retailers , as well as salaries.
"We find that retailers are turning to online channels or even sell purely online shops and do not actually have ," he said.
But it's not only online trade affect local designers . The markets are eroded by major international brands such as Zara and Top Shop opening stores in Australia .

"The major retailers come to Australia have the advantage to get to market faster , products from the gateway to the store myself." Dr. Sands said.
" What we see small retailers is to do with the ability to jump on board with the fashion trends and changes as well .
" ( They ) create a product that is suitable for some clients and special events , for example in the vicinity of Spring Racing Carnival events ," he said.
Julia Evans Camm Council of the textile and fashion industry , said savvy designers find new ways to get customers into their stores , such as events and loyalty programs .
"The big challenge that retailers have actually received the support and development of customer service experience that is unique and agile to the needs of consumers," she said.
"Sometimes , in Australia, we are actually a better service experience, when we go to an ATM . "
New shops popping up all over town
Temporary stores called pop - ups are a cheap and effective way to build brand considered to take new places.
Melbourne designer Dana Lenko has a permanent memory in the center of Melbourne, but in recent years, a series of pop - up stores opened in other parts of the city.
Ms Lenko said owners often offer free their empty , the stores inject life into their buildings .
" To open a pop -up shop for a few months , is much less of a commitment for a brand to take five to 10 -year lease in a shopping center ," Ms Lenko said.
" My Fit- out can be cheaper, but more creative, so it 's just you many more options . "
Ms Lenko said there will always be a place for his business, but it also includes the network , with social media and a blog to complement both its charm and online store.
"We have customers throughout Australia and around the world and the things on our Instagram on our Facebook page , on our online store ," she said.
